You need to set up an Apple device with an Apple ID account when you start using a brand-new iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, or Apple TV. The Apple account is also the identity to download and purchase apps from your App Store. When you switch to another account, you have to change your Apple ID for your App Store. This guide shares the workflows on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac computer in various situations.

Part 1: How to Change Apple ID in App Store on iPhone

Do you have to delete apps to change Apple ID for the App Store? The answer is no. However, the apps downloaded with the old account will remain linked to it. Furthermore, you can use an account for your App Store that is different for your iOS device.

Step 1. Open the Settings app from your home screen.

Step 2. Tap on your profile at the top of your screen.

Step 3. Go to the Media & Purchases tab.

Step 4. Tap the Sign Out button on the popup to log out of the primary account.

Step 5. When prompted, hit Sign Out on the alert dialog to confirm your action.

Step 6. Next, return to the Media & Purchases tab.

Step 7. If you want to use a different account, choose Not [your primary account] on the dialog.

Step 8. Next, type the Apple ID and password for your App Store.

Step 9. Finally, tap the Next button to confirm changing your Apple ID for your App Store.

Note: During the process, you may need to enter your old Apple ID password or iPhone passcode to sign out.

Part 2: How to Change Apple ID in the App Store on Mac

If you want to use a different account on your Mac, you can also change your Apple ID logged in to the App Store on your Mac computer. We use the latest macOS as an example to show you the steps.

Step 1. Find the App Store app on your Mac using Spotlight Search or in the Applications folder and open it.

Step 2. Click the Store menu on the top menu bar and choose Sign Out.

Step 3. If prompted, input your Apple ID password or Mac login password to sign it out.

Step 4. Next, click Sign In at the bottom left corner of the main App Store screen.

Step 5. Enter the email address or phone number associated with the new Apple ID into the field and click Sign In.

Step 6. Finally, provide the password and press Sign In again.

Part 3: How to Fix Cannot Change Apple ID in App Store on iPhone

What can you do if you cannot change your Apple ID in the App Store? Firstly, check the account to ensure it is not associated with other devices. Moreover, your new Apple ID must not be locked or disabled. If the problem persists, you have to remove the old account from your iPhone or iPad using Apeaksoft iOS Unlocker. Then, you can sign in with a new Apple account.

How to Fix Cannot Change Apple ID in iPhone App Store

Step 1. Install the Apple ID removal tool
version for Mac OS X 10.7 and above. Choose the Remove Apple ID mode. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC with a Lightning cable. The software will automatically detect your device. Click the Start button to move on.

Step 2. Delete old Apple ID

If Find My is disabled, the old Apple ID will be removed immediately.

If Find My is enabled on iOS 11.3 or earlier, reset all settings on your device. The software will do its job when your device restarts.

If Find My is enabled on iOS 11.4 or later, turn on two-factor authentication. Turn on your iPhone, enter 0000, and click Confirm. Check your device information and hit Start to download the firmware. This step can let you upgrade or downgrade your iOS. Finally, enter 0000 and click Unlock.

Step 3. Set up another Apple account
Wait for your iPhone to restart. Then, set it up and choose Sign in Manually when you are asked to sign in to Apple ID.
